History
Sonny is a version of the Kewpie or QP; a character created by American artist Rose O'Neill. Kewpie 1909 began as a comic strip and became an immensely popular doll. The inspiration for Kewpie came from the cherub or Cupid from Roman mythology. According to Rose, the cherubim used to cause problems and put people in awkward situations while Kewpie instead helps people overcome their problems.
Kewpie, like Sonny, is equipped with small angel wings, however, is the original version sexless while Sonny is a small boy. Sonny is named after its creator Soeya.
The first Sonny Angel was an 18cm (7”) wide-eyed doll introduced in March 2005. Soon after, a mini figure series was released, the “Animal Series 1” wearing animal headgear. By the way, Sonny Angel’s birthday is May 15th, 2004.
How many kinds?
There are 10 different Sonny Angel series in total. In addition, if you include previous limited edition series, the total reaches over 900 dolls.
Limited Edition
Limited Editions of Sonny Angel are released seasonally, such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Halloween. They are limited in quantity and dressed up with a special design like a Santa Claus.
Blind Package
A major feature of the Sonny Angel series is that each series consists of the 12 different headgear in “blind box packaging”. You do not know which one you will get until opening the package.

Secret Figure
Each series includes a “secret version” which appears randomly. In addition, “special secret versions” exist and they are only 10, 50 or 100 in the whole world. They often command a premium in the collectable market.

Robby angel is a close friend of Sonny Angel. He can change his body color by himself, camouflage like a chameleon, and even transform himself. So he is able to imitate Sonny Angel's head so easily!
